Council has been working hard on flood recovery and has already completed many scheduled recovery works. We would like to encourage visitors to get out and travel around our beautiful region now things are back on track. The Somerset region is well and truly back in business again. An exciting development for the region is the recent announcement of the new 1,600 square metre $4.4 million civic centre at Esk. It will have a 350-seat capacity and be a hub for business conferences in the region. Completion is expected by July 2012. Just one hour from Brisbane, the Somerset region borders the Ipswich, Toowoomba, South Burnett and Sunshine Coast regions. The Somerset region is the fastest growing local government area in southeast Queensland and the thriving local community supports local business. The location, the beautiful natural environment, agricultural holdings and the strong sense of community define the region and also offer unique business opportunities. Our towns of Fernvale and Lowood are a close commuting distance to Ipswich and Brisbane, while Kilcoy, Esk, Toogoolawah and many pretty Somerset villages offer the best country living in southeast Queensland. Somerset Regional Council uses local businesses itself wherever possible and is at present encouraging local businesses to put in tender applications for works relating to the Somerset Civic Centre construction, which will stimulate local employment and the local economy. Council is an equal opportunity employer and offers a flexible, progressive working environment as well as its popular LIFE (lifestyle improvement for employees) program. The Somerset region offers unparalleled lifestyle benefits if you are considering a tree change. On behalf of Somerset Regional Council, welcome to the region. www.somerset.qld.gov.aunab_logo.jpeg NAB believes in people and communities. This leads us to support their needs and interests. As part of River949’s commitment, the station will broadcast ‘live’ 9am till 1pm on Saturday (November 5) from The Fernvale Sporting Complex and will include activity and interviews to encourage visitation over the key days. The General Manager of River949 David Greenwood said that ‘ in working with The Opportune Business Network, it ensures that local residents and businesses will enjoy a professional and extremely well connected Exhibition, designed to support a broad range of stakeholders with professional advisors from Government departments, business assistance and support to employment training and opportunity. The Somerset Shire will be an active participant. The Expo will have something for everybody’. River949 sees its involvement as essential especially as small business (and larger) struggle to survive after the January Events and now achieve growth in a toughening market place. This will be a first for the South East region. Visitors will be surprised at the support given to the Expo by leading Government agencies and from the community and the business sector.
